AVATAR
CCTP 5005 PROJECT
My keyword is Media Convergence, which describes how different media forms and positions interact and merge in the digital environment today. I am particularly interested in how creators use multiple tools to convey ideas across boundaries, and how this blend both expands the types of content and messages and causes new challenges like users' attention fragmentation or creators' decreasing freedom of expression.
My avatar is inspired by the wind chime, which can symbolize harmony through diversity. Each chime produces a different sound, but they can create a collective, harmonious voice together with the help of the wind. This reflects the idea that multiple elements can interact and combine to form something more meaningful. I chose elements related to communication: the eye for visual communication, the mouth for conversation and interaction, people holding hands for cooperation, the camera for recording, the wrench for technology, the pencil for writing, and the internet for social media.
These elements link to a ring, symbolizing that they can connect and merge. Above the ring, wires converge into one point, reinforcing the concept of convergence: communication fields can converge into one, bringing unexpected intersectional assistance and rewards.
The strength of my avatar is that it clearly arranges different symbolic components to make them connected, and clarity and visual unity are well-balanced. The weakness is that the convergence endpoint is not shown clearly. Viewers may mistake it for just a tool to fix the Avatar, and misinterpret its meaning. It also has limitations on sound expression because of my metal material choice: it is too soft to make voices by hitting each parts. Otherwise, it could resemble wind chimes more closely and emphasize the concept of media convergence from a variety of sensory perspectives.
